ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY.
Annual Meeting.
The annual meeting of the Orchestral Society was held last evening, Mr W. Beck presiding. Tho annual report makes special mention of the increase in the number of playing members (the full strength being now thirty), and of the satisfactory support accorded by the public during the year. It was also stated that the orchestra now possessed a fine set of instruments, with the exception of a tympa.ni. The year had ended with a credit balance of £34, while assets were held to the value of £146 13a sa, of which amount £34 3s lid was cash in hai!d. The Society was indebted to Mr M. Cohen, conductor, to Mr H. JE. Gunter, pianist, and also to the ladies and gentlemen who had 'contributed vocal items at the concert during the year.
The balance-sheet disclosed that mem bers' subscriptions totalled £65 12a 6d, and concert receipts £46 7s. Of the last concert's receipts, £1 went to the funds of the Beautifying Association. The election of officers resulted as follows: -President, Mr W. Beck ; VicePresidents, Mrs Fitzherbert, Messrs J. Strang, C. J. Monro, Leopold Simmons, and Dr Peach ; conductor, Mr M. Cohen; leader, Mr T. Kitchen; pianist, Mr H. E. Grunter; stage manager, Mr Turner; librarian, Mr P. Larcomb; assistant librarian, Mr Mitchell; auditor, Mr G-. J. Scott; secretary, Mr H. Swallow; committee, Messrs Wingate, Bell, Kitchen, and GraTiam.
Votes of thanks were passed to Messrs M. Cohen, Gunter, Kitchen, Larcomb, Mitchell, and W. Beck, for valuable assistance rendered by them during the year in their various offices. Mr H. Swallow, secretary, also received a vote of thanks and a donation of £5.
