Some time ago the police of this colony suppressed a noxious publication called the New York Police Gazette on the ground that its circulation was a detriment to the morals of the community. Why it should suppress the New York Police Ga^etto and allow the publication called Sydney Truth to be distributed throughout the length and breadth of the Colony is a thing •which it is very difficult to understand. Sydney Truth is a literary garbage monger which would not be allowed to issue from a printing press in New Zealand.' it rakes to the surface all that is malignant and immoral in the social life of .Australia ; it chronicles the bestialities ,pf the police courts; and fills its columns to overflowing with stories .of .degradation and crime.
