Some time ago the police of this colony suppressed a noxious publication called the New York Police Gazette on the ground that its circulation was a detriment to the morals of the community. Why it should suppress the New York Police Ga^etto and allow the publication called Sydney Truth to be distributed throughout the length and breadth of the Colony is a thing •which it is very difficult to understand. Sydney Truth is a literary garbage monger which would not be allowed to issue from a printing press in New Zealand.' it rakes to the surface all that is malignant and immoral in the social life of .Australia ; it chronicles the bestialities ,pf the police courts; and fills its columns to overflowing with stories .of .degradation and crime. J.i put #olas Zola in wealth of detail, and with deliberate perversity §ies jn the Cage of precedent and crosses the borderline which divides decorum from laxity, and liberty from license, 1 Nothing further need be said than
that immediate steps should be taken by the decent members of this community to represent to the responsible Minister the necessity of at once placing Sydney Truth upon the list of publications to be expurgated under the ' Indecent Publications Act.
