Mrs J. 11. Bethune, an old Wellington resident, died yesterday moraiug.

Dr. Hislop, father of the Hon. T. W. Hislop, died at Dunedin yesterday morning; aged S3 years. The Eucation Board has placed on record its deep sorrow at the death of Dr. John Hislop and its appreciation of the greatest services rendered by him to the cause of education in Otago in particular and the colony in general.

Mr J. Laurenson, who has been relieving at the Foxton telegraph office returned to Palmerston on Welnesday,
