THE NEW POST OFFICE.

All Round Suitability

From the plans which are now in the possession of the local postumcor the new Post office for all round convenience and up-to-datedness should cornraond itself to both postal officials and the public. Inside, first-class provision is made for the staff and work will be carried out under very different conditions to those obtaining at the present time, Operators will be provided with a large room upstairs 41ft 6 x 25ft 6. They will be in indisputed possession, r.nd none of the present dumpiugs of rnailbags, and rushing hither and thither of excited mail officials will disturb their tranquility. In the same storey, facing Main-street, will be placed the telephone bureau, a compartment 30ft long by half that width.

The mailroom, situated downstairs, will be a paradise compared to the present place. Its dimensions are 46ft by 25ft. The stationrnaster is stowed away in a quiet corner, but easily accessible to the public and officials. He also has a fair sized office.

One up-to-date improvement in particular will commend itself to the public, and that is the separation of tolegraphie, postal, and money order business. The one counter, thirty feet long, will accommodate all, but the different departments will be screened off. Admission is gained from a 13ft x 13ft vestibule at the corner of Main-street and the Square The letter boxes are placed on the Main-street frontage, access being also from the vestibule.

As far as can be judged the office will have an attractive, if not an imposing appearance. A tower rises to a considerable height above the main building, and in it provision will be rnado for a clock. The ornamentations are neat and attractive, one special feature being a balcony, which encircles the tower structure, on the second floor.

The public will appreciate the proposals contained above, but still more the fact that tenders are now being called immediately for the erection ol the building. The' contract time for its completion is tight, months.
