Fire Extinguisher.
In another column a public trial is announced for Thursday, 14th inst. of an ingenious and effective contrivance for extinguishing fires. The" principle is that a cylinder holding three gallons of water becomes charged at will with a gas at a high pressure, forcing the water then highly impregnated with carbolic acid gas through a small nozzle attached to three feet of hose, so as to be easily directed from a considerable distance on to the seat of the fire. These machines are largely in use in America, and have proved wonderfully successful. The trials taka place at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. on the piece of vacant land opposite the convent.
