GOLF.
(By "All Square.") The annual meeting of the Manawatu Golf Club will be held on Friday next at 4 p.m. A large number of new members are up for election, and the season promises to be the most successful in the history of the club. The club will be strengthened this year by the inclusion of D. Pryde, a Wellington front ranker now residing in Feilding, V. Harman, Newnham, and several other first-class players. The links are in better order than they have been for years, although one or two of the greens have summered badly.
Additional interest will be given to country golf this year by tho fact that Dr. Wilson has kindly donated a challenge cup for competition amongst provincial clubs. It is understood that the cup will be for teams of not less than six members, and will be held by any winning team until rescued by challengers. It is expected that Napier, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Hastings, Otaki, Masterton, Bototawai, Foathorston, Dannevirke, and other provincial clubs will make a bid for the trophy.
Nioholas, the runner-up of the championship last year, and now resident at Makino, will play for Manawatu again this year.
