Mr Cuthbert James Powell, third son of the late Mr Richard Powell, was married at Marton on Tuesday to Miss Florence Adelaide M'arr, third daughter of Mr M. Man*, of Marton.

Mis.** .Rousell \vas a very popular young »'idy, and hor demise will bo sincerely regretted by a large circle of friends. At All Saint's Church yesterday Miss Ridley, of Palmerston, was married to Mr William Tyrell, the popular athlete and footballer. The ceremony was solemnised by the Rev. C. C. Harper. Archibald Stewart, who was a storekeeper for 13 years, a Justice of Peace and a Borough Councillor, died yesterday morning. Ho was unmarried and was aged 68. It is not known that deceased had any relatives in the cobny. He was a prominent Mason and was highly respected by all sections of the community. Mr Stewart was for some years a resident of Palmerston North, and was very popular throughout this district.

A Press Association telegram from Pahiatua announces the death of Mr Archibald Stewart, of that town, at the age of 68. Previous to taking up his residence in Pahiatua the deceased gentleman was for many years a wellknown figure in Palmerston North. He was in fact one of the pioneers of the place. For many years he farmed part of the borough reserve bordering on Park road. Mr Stewart did some useful work on tho Borough Council when, upon the inauguration of the first drainage system and tho waterworks, the town began to emerge from the bush stage. He was also an enthusiast on educational matters, and served for some years on the School Committee which controlled the one town school of those days. Mr Stewart was of a very hearty, jovial disposition, and the news of his death will be received with regret by all old residents who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. Miss Polloschek, of the telephone exchange, has been transferred to Nelson. Miss Nutt, of the Wellington exchange, will fill the vacancy hero.
