SAD DROWNING FATALITY.

A young man named Malcolm -Tenkins, 19 years of age, wos drowned at Ottainahana, a tidal lagoon near Karamea on Sunday- Accompanied by E. 11. Issell, junr-, and Miss K. O'Connor, he attempted to cross the lagoon on horseback, but ho got into a deep flood and lost. control, of his horse. Issell then rode out to rescue Jenkins, but his horse too became unmanageable and so he discarded it ancT then swam out to the drowning man, who was weighed clown by a heavy coat, the pockets of which were filled with cartridges. Issell attempted to bring Jenkins ashore, but was unable to do so, and luid great difficulty in getting free from the hold of the drowning mnn. In mi exhausted condition he at last reached a snag and was eventually assisted ashore by others who .were cal'ied to the scene by the cries of the lady Miss O'Connor, who was also in a dangerous position and was also assisted ashore. Tli'j body of Jenkins was discovered later, and was buried at Kai'amea.
