Sydney Friday. The Lord Mayor presided at a meet* ing of influential citizens at the Town Hall to initiate a fund for the relief of drought-sufi-ring settlers, and announced that aimedy he bad received £300 towards ilie .-fond, chiefly from New Zealan.l. The Tasmania- Prituat* and others made strong appeals on behalf of the settlers, and gave harrowing details of Bufferings and losses which settlers had sustained. A considerable amount was subscribed m the room.
