ACCIDENT AT ELLERSLIE RACECOURSE.
A Jockey Injured.
A serious accident occurred at tho Ellerslie racecourse last Monday morning, when a well-known local jockey named R. Hall was schooling iho steeplechase horse The Swimmer over the small hurd'es in the centre of the courso. When rising at one of the huddles, the horse's forelegs became entangled in tho rails, and, toppling over, tbe animal fell heavily to tbe ground, rolling over the unfortunate rider. Tho horse's neck wa3 broken ia the fall, while Hall had his collarbone broken and sustained other injuries. Mtdical assistance was summoned, and ttye injured jockey was subsequently conveyed to his home near by. The horse was a valuable one, his owner, Mr EL Franks, having recently refused an offer of £200 for him.
