Tho Papakura Valley correspondent of the Auckland Hera'd reports that another old colonist in the person of Mr A tcbifon Oliver died at bis residence at Rrookby, on January 16tb, being in his 68th year. Mr o:i7er came to the colony with bis parents in the Duchess of Ar'gylpj and after residing in various parts of New Zealand settled in Wan. ganui in the tailoring business, but upon inheriting the estate of his father came to reside at the Papakura Valley a few years ago. Mr Donald Grant was judge of Highland music and dancing at the Caledonian champion ship meeting at Wanganui yesterday. A Press Association wire received last night announced that the following amor, gst others had succeeded in the Junior Scholarship examinations with credit;—A.Ramfoid, Mary C. Williamsou, Catherine Jameson, P. G. Bamford, and P. G. Rutherford, of Wanganui". Miss Jameson is a Palmerston girl. L. Furric, who won the 100 yards ancl JlO yards championships at Wanganui yesterday, is an athlete well known in this district. During a residence of some years he w as associated with ell athletic movements here, aud will be remembered for the good work he did as a member of the lvpreseatative team of tho'Manawatu Rugby Union.
