Per Press Association. Wellington, Thursday. The opening day of tbe Wellington Kacing Club's summer meeting was a great success. Thero was sj'orious weather and a record attemaice of about 7000, including visitors f.-om all parts of the colony. Speculation was brisk, £13,907 going -through the machines, against „9043 for the corresponding day in 190}; despite the appearance bf a large number of boolfpakers who appeared to drive a good business. A sood nice, won by a long nick. Time limn 16 3-ssec. Dividends £9 Is and £1 16. Wellington Cup Advance 1, Hinetaura 2, Cannie Chiel 3. All started. Advance, who was a hot favourite, cams through the field a quarter ot a mila from home and-won with great ease by two lengths. Time 2_in 84 l-sseo (a record for the colony). Dividends £2 9s and £2 7s 63. Electric Handicap — Petrovna 1, Tu'cpo 2, Hohora 3. Scratched— CUisk, Westguard, Eed Gauntlet, and Ayrdale. A good race. Won by a quaUer of a length. " Telegraph Handicap—Petrovna 1, Red Gauntlet 2, Ayrdale 3. Scratobed —Westguard, Pallas, and Ringlet. Petrovna and Eed Gauntlet fought out the finish, the former winning by two lengths. Time, 1 mm 14 2-sth see. Dividends, £7 8s 6d and £1 7s 6d.
