A very great deal of interest centred in the Gisborne - Palmerston match, which was played on the new green. The rink proved tricky, and the visitors led off with foar. Palmerston by good play scored in the next few heads, and obtained a commanding lead, which was substantially increased by a gain of six on one head. Gisborne played a good game, Hennessy and Gaudin both being prominent, but they were unable to make headway against their opponents, the game eventually ending Palmerston 27, Gisborne 16. The match attracted great attention from the spectators, who applauded impartially good play on both Bides.

Wellington and Newmarket had their set-to on a fine piece of turf on the old green, and 0. sterling game between these champions resulted in a win for Wellington by five points.
