Third Round.

The three best games in this round were thoso between Palraerston and Newtown, Feilding and Wanganui, and Wellington and Pahiatua. In the first named game, Palmerston held their opponents safe from the jump. They started off with a lead of three on the first head, and lead to the eleventh, when the score was an even nine. The local «nen put or three the next head, and lead by 12 when the sieventeeth head was reached. Newtown scored on tb.9 remaining four heads, but the result was not affected, Palmerston winning a good game by five points. The game between Wellington and Pahiatua was even more keenly contested. Pahifttua scored one on the first head, and were evea at the fourth. They maintained their lead to the ninth head, when Wellington had an advantage of one, and at the eleventh head Pahiatua lead by two, but Wellington turned the tables by scoring sis at the noxfc venture. At the sixteenth head Wellington lead by 11, but remained at their score of 22 right to the finish, Pahiqtua increasing their score at every head, and by their splendid recovery—muoh the same as that made by Newtown against Palmerston— reached to within three of their opponents' score. Ths Feilding-Wanganui lmtch was another three-point victory, and this was very well fought out Feilding led from the jump, but failedat the eleventh head, the losers as in the above matches lecovering well on the final heads. All the other games were easy wins One or two of the contests were interesting. In the Dannevirke-Ponsonby game the losers were only one point behind at the seventeeth hßd 7ji i\ c Carterton-Thorndon game the losers led from the first to the e'eventh head, end were even at the seventeenth. The good win of the couutry club was scored on the last four heads, the scores of which made up their majority. The two most exciting contests wore those between Napier and Pahiatua and Wanganui and Ponbonby, the first named clubs in each instance winning by the narrow margin of one point, Pahiatua led well up to the sixth head', when Napier, scoring for the second time, drew up level, and thereafter it was a ding dong go, the teams being level at the twenty-firat hole. The other game was equally close. The losiDg team drew first blood, and the lead vacillated from the fifth head to the end the teams, as in the former game, being level at the second last head. The other games were of a very one- ' siaed patui-e, the. teams being quevenly

matched, the city cubs with big membership scoring in each case against small country clubs.
