Our Felding Letter.
(I"rom Our Own Correspondent.) ..',- Sept 14. Mr Bowron delivered his long" promised lecture on the, cheese and. butter industry last evening to a large and appreciative audience. As I predicted m a ; former letter, his address had the desired effect, for over 100 additional shai'eß m the proposed factory ware taken up^in the room. In aU probability the buildings, &c, will now be erected without delay, and we may expect very shortly to see this much talked of enterprise m complete working Better late than never! A commencement has at length been made with the erection of a foot-bridge over the Oroua at Aorangi (Bull's, mill). The work is, I believe, under the superintendence of Mr v Nye,<aß»« ■isted by Messrs W. . !>:' Hichplas and Thompson (carpenters pi Feilding). The work, with fair weather, should be completed m three weeks or a month at least. I notice that our local " liaYe decided to close their ' several places of business at 7. p.m each, dsy (Sattirdays accepted). _Thiß is amevein the right direction, and W which will, be heartily; welcomed by the hard»workd assistants. X I have come across seyeratcopies \f the "N. Z. War-cry " lately, m Feildjng, and I must say , that a mbre blasphemous productionU have never before li. is to -be devoutly hoped that the "Gallant ' ! 'Offi&efs" will not disturb .our very peaceful' township with .their , Tagaries. .• ■ . . v A very laige number of railwaysleepers are being daily sent away .from^the Teilding station. ;^ The Trustees m Messrs ; Palmer and Jones! estate summoned -three orfour.individualsbvfore theR.M. on Wednesday last to recover certain monies alleged to be owing; to ■ t tW estate. In consequence pt %he really admirable manner m: which the books of the concern had been kept, the result was not gratifying i<> the Trusses, Messrs; Capper airdl .ghWill, inasmuch as Mr Ward cave judgment for the defendants* m each case. The position of Trnstee m estates of this class cannot he a very Remunerative one. ;^ j ; "';■ Another settler thejKiwitea^ awived this week m the person, of Mr Heniy /Wishawi late of the Ohariu Sawmills near Wellinpfcm, f--3 1 5 Lawikinism has' ! again jshown rigni of Hfe m the township... On.; •' this occasion some individuals impr'e burdened* with spirits than, brains > -has been stupid enough to tamper, with one of the street lamps. 'I : believe that m all probabilitt the offender will interview Mr Ward, BiM on the subject /and < ho doubt receive a salutary lesson. ; :1
