PALMERSTON CRICKET CLUB

A meeting of gentlemen favorable to the formation of a Cricket Club w|is held m the Eoyal Hotel, Palmerston, on Wednesday evening. There wore about jforty persons present, and Mr Staito was 5 called upon to preside. The Chairman briefly referred to the object for which the meeting had been convened, pointing out the physical benefits to be derived from tho practice of such a manly game. He had been informed that m the past Palraeraton was possessed of a Criokefc Club, but he believed that wa9 now defunct, and if it were considered desirable that a Club should be formed, the next matter to decide would be as to the policy of starting a fresh, op as it were resuscitating the old one. He was not aware that there were cither funds or material from the old Club, and consequent, m his opinion, he thought it would ba bettor to now start upon an independent basis. He would, however, be glad to learn the views of the meeting upon the question, and if it were deemed advisable to commence afresh, I perhaps some gentleman would move m the matter. Mr Chables said that there was neither material nor funds on hand. Mr Mitfobd proposed, and Mr ChaelES seconded — " That Mr Staite be elected VicePresident." Mr Tueneb proposed, and Mr Chbsteb seconded — " That Mr Nanuestad be elected Vice-President." As it was deemed advisable that there should he two vice-presidents, bot.h the above-named gentlemen were elected to the office. On the motion of Mr Turner, and seconded by Mr CHE3TEB, Mr Cot was elected Treasurer; aud upon the motion of Mr Ciiksteb, seconded by Mr Seaton, Mr Mitford was appointed Secretary. A committee of six to form a Committee of Management was next chosen,, with the following result:— Messrs. Pirani, Turner, Charles, Seaton, Mason, P. Warburtou, aud Crawford. A ballot was taken for a Match Committee, the following gentlemen having been proposed as candidates: — Messrs. Charles, Cox, Pirani, Mitford, Seaton, and Turner. The choice fell upon the three firdt-nained gentlemen. It was resolved that tho subscriptions to the Club for the season should be 10s 6d, and that the colours should be red and black. A proposition was made by Mr Seaton seconded by Mr Pirani — " That a quantity of cocoa-nut matting should be obtained for the purpose of » pitch for practice, but an,! amendment to the contrary by Mr Mitfonl was carried by a large majority. The meeting then arranged a deal of routine matters, and before adjourning determined to have its first match of the season this week, at two p.m., sides to be chosen by the Secretary and Treasurer.
