An Old and Anxious Resident.

TO THE EDITOB. . Sib, — Foxton is certainly fairly entitled to - the designation, " Musical," which I have heard applied to it. The concerts given by the Choral Society have all been Such complete successes, that Foxtbnians were .not prepared for the successful debut made by the modest Sol Fa class in the Primitive Methodist Church yesterday evening. All with whom I conversed at the close of the service of sacred song to which we weie treated, expressed not only astonishment, but the most unqualified delight: Only one fault was discernable, the service was too short. Foxtori has good reason to be proud of her two' musical conductors, Messrs Beatty and Somers, for those gentlemen spare ho pains to provide pure amusement for the masses^ and their efforts deserveevery encourage-* ment'. There is nothing more elevating to the mind or soul inspiring than 'good music, and I hope that the Choral Society'and Sol Fa-ists-will go on in their good work of elevating the public taste, and providing delightful amusement for the winter evenings. — I am, &c., - Foxton,' July 27th. Habmony.

■_ . ' TO THE EDITOR. , , SiR,-r-May ;I be allowed to ask " Saxon" for the proof as to the truth of the 'assertion which he made in his last letter in your columns, — " That the press is taking the place of "the pulpit in promoting the- good of mankind." I ',quot«r-froni memory. - ;I know, 'there is a pq^ular cry to.that effect but no doubt "Saxon" has better reasons than that ' for his assertion. As a sincere seeker after truth, I shall be grateful if " Saxon J ' will kindly state his' reasons for thinking as he does. — I am, &c, Search.
