At the opening of the annual session of the Philosophical Institution, Dr Von Haast m his presidential-address gave accounts of the discovery of remarkable ancient rock paintings m the Weka Pass. He exhibited careful drawings of them made by S. S. Cousin. Some of the rock paintings are 15 feet long. They represent animals of foreign countries, regions, and dresses of semicivilized people ; underneath, them are characters like' those of the Tanal language resembling those on an ancient bell found m the North; Island. . At. the Supreme Courtto-day, Pooley and Bramhall of the English' Cricketers, were charged witli malicious injury to property. No new evidence adduced. Accused found not guilty, Sykes and Falloon, forgery, not guilty. _±l_-
