The accounts of the old company have been closed. Aniouirt of paid-up capital, £200,000. Mr J. L. Wilson was appointed to the vacancy 1 caused by the death of Mr W. . C. Wilson. ' . • . Curtin was found guilty, 1 and sen- 1 tencedv to death. Mr Rees for the defence, called Annie McDonald, who said she had heard Shanaghan threaten to kill Curtin ; had seen him driving* prisoner's cattle ;• eight months I ago' Curtin went to Shanaghan's house/ and Shanaghan chased Him away. John Parr, a settler, deposed that Shanaghan had made threats against the prisoner, and that they very frequently quarv relied. ■ . . . At a meeting of the Grand. Lodge 1.0.G-.T., a* retter,. was= read from the Hon. W. Fox, regretting his inability to attend. It Avas resdlvea to send a telegram r the inability of the Lodge to send a> delegate to, the Eigh t Worthy Grand Lodge of America. A s regards the protest of the Wellington lodges against holding the G/and,'Lodge" at Auckland, the committee^ upheldvtne action of the executive, and their report was adopted. A long debate ensued on the Negro question. The reports recommend the admission of the Negro on equal footing. [Resolutions' were passed disapproving of the action' of the Worthy Grand* Lodge- of America, and affirming that there was no necessity for allegiance to it.
