The Prime Minister of New Zealand (Mr .Fraser) has arrived at London from Washington by air. British Government representatives, also Lieuten-ant-General Sir Bernard Freyberg and the New Zealand Acting-High Commissioner in London (Dr Campbell) greeted Mr Fraser when he landed.at Northolt airfield. Mr Fraser, during his journey, learned by the 'plane's radio that he had been made a Companion of Honour. The death occurred recently at Crookston (West Otago) of one of the most notable figures in Clydesdale stud breeding in the Dominion —Mr Simon Fleming. He was 75 years of age and went to Crookston 60 years ago with his parents and other members of the family, where land was taken up and lived on by Mr Fleming till his death. In partnership with his brothers, John and Alexander, the breeding of Clydesdales was specialised in, and the name became one of the best known in the country as breeders as well as of show ring judges, in which capacity tbe three acted at Shows throughout the Dominion.

By the death of Captain E. V. Sanderson, president of the Forest and Bird Protection Society of New Zealand, which took place in Wellington on Saturday, the Dominion loses its leading champion of flora and fauna. The society was founded by Captain Sanderson, at the instigation of. Sir Thomas Mackenzie, in 1923, and he remained at its helm till his death. Many bird sanctuaries' were established on the suggestion of Captain Sanderson. Educated at Wellington College, he was an enthusiastic athlete in his youth. He achieved a considerable reputation as a boxer, but cricket was his principal recreation. Captain Sanderson always took a keen interest in defence matters. Starting as a trooper in the Boer War, he quickly rose to commissioned rank, and he also saw service again in the Great War.
