DEATH OF KING'S COUSIN

The death occurred recently at London of the Countess of Southesk, wife of the Earl of Southesk, and a tfrst cousin of the King. She was the younger daughter of the late Princess Royal and the first Duke of Fife. In 1923 she married Lord Carnegie (eldest son of the tenth Earl of Southesk) who succeeded as eleventh Earl of Southesk in 1941. The Countess of Southesk. who was thirteenth in order of succession to the Throne, was one of the five Counsellors of State appointed by Letters Patent under the Great Seal to act for - the King during his absence from the Kingdom in 1943, when he visited Africa. The Countess had one child, James George Alexander Bannerman, Lord Carnegie, who was born on September 23, 1929.
