As a result of the decision of the British Government to bring in compulsory service for single men no resignations had been recoived from Mr Asquith's Cabinet, although it had been pointed out that Sir John Simon, and Messrs .McKonna, Runciman, and Harcourt were likely to resign as they had strongly opposed tho move. i it j New Zealand's casualties to date totalled 8033—343 officers and 7690 other ranks. A total of 95 officers and 1803 men had been killed ..and 216 officers and 5204 men wounded. • From Salonika came the report that a semi-circle of 50 miles surrounded the area. It had been scientifically defended. Tho Greeks were reported as 6aying that they would not oppose a Bulgarian frontal attack on tho Allied positions at Salonika, but they would oppose any flanking movements.
