MAGISTRATE’S COURT
Before Mr A. Coleman, S.M., m the Court this- morning, Kangi Larkins, shearer and horsebreaker, of Awahuri,' pleaded guilty to u charge of unlawfully. converting a car to his own use on December 10. Sergeant A. M. Harding, for the police, said that accused had removed a car valued at £3OO, the property of Jean itdna Clarke, from the parking area in Kimbolton Road, Feilding, on the night of December 10 and had driven it to Arapata, a distance of some 14 miles. There he had run out of petrol and abandoned the vehicle. The car had been recovered and was in an undamaged condition. M lien apprehended accused had admitted the offence. Accused was 30 years of age and had not previously been in trouble. He had served in the Armed Forces overseas for a period of three years and was the owner of a farm at Himatangi. He had apparently been spending too much time in town drinking. In entering a conviction, the Magistrate told accused that he was liable to a term of three months’ imprisonment, but in view of his war record and the fact that he had not been before the Court previously he would be fined £25. The amount would have to be paid straight away and accused was told that he was very fortunate in not being sent to prison.
