BOXING

HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP. TITLE BOUT FOR PALMERSTON N. Arrangements in connection with the title bout for Boxing Night have been satisfactorily completed, and the stage is now set for the heavyweight championship, the big event in the New Zealand boxing world. The challenger is George Muir, of Greymouth, the holder being Don Mullett, of Auckland, and Palmerston North is fortunate in being able to stage this title bout, as other associations badly wanted the match, but were not prepared to offer a big enough purse or were unable to arrange a suitablo date. Muir is keen after the title, but stipulated he must have a full month’s training to prepare himself for the big fight, and as Mullett leaves for Australia early in the New Year a match had to be fixed before Christmas. The Manawatu Association agreed to give a substantial purse and liberal expenses to the hoxers, and was prepared to stage the match provided Muliett put up his title. He agreed to do this and the New Zealand Boxing Council confirmed the match as the title bout for the heavyweight professional championship of New Zealand. Owing to the heavy cost of staging this contest, the Manawatu Association has found it necessary to entirely suspend its free list, but members of the association have been granted special ringside concessions. Prices for ringside seats have been advanced, but there is plenty of room for those with more limited incomes to ' get a good view of the contest at suitable figures. Prices and the date of opening of the box plan are advertised in this issue. Inquiries for coats have already been received from many districts, and it is expected that within the next day or two ringside seats will bo at a premium.
