RACING AT WOODVILLE

GAY ROUEN WINS HURDLES. BARUCH A WINNER. The Woodvillo District Jockey Club’s meeting was held on the Woodville course today in fine but dull weather. The course was in excellent order and there was a large attendance. Handily placed all the way behind the leaders in the Manga-atua Hurdles Handicap, Gay Rouen ran to the front once the last fence had been jumped and won well. Tracer and Caolus alternated in the lead from Daniel Haigh, Gay Rouen and Norse. Caelus hit the third to last fence hard and Tracer came on to lead into the straight from Daniel Haigh, Gay Rouen, Caelus and Norse. Daniel Haigh was first over the last fence, but Gay Rouen and Tracer both beat him home rather comfortably.

There was a keen finish to the First. Maiden Stakes, with .the favourite, Baruch, staying on solidly to win narrowly, but well. Early prominent were Teddy Lack, Baruch, Colostrip and Lair, and they comprised the leading division practically all the way. Teddy Lack was first to turn for home from Baruch, Lair, Colostrip, and Grey Donne. In a keen finish Baruch finished best, and in a sterling race for the second prize Grey Donne was only a head clear of Colostrip, with Teddy Lack another head away. Next to finish were Sailor Boy and Smile. Prefa and Invermay were slow to leave the barrier. e

The Bolton Handicap saw a very popular win for Rakanui, who carried the top weight in the van throughout. Passing the stand the first time he had Theolateral alongside him, with Don, Mac and Tavern Light following. The order actually changed very little in the running, and as they ran into tho straight Rakanui still had charge on the rails, with Theolateral alongside him, then coming Financial, Don Mac and Tavern Light. Theolateral tried hard to head off Rakanui, but the topweight finished just too well for him. Don Mac was close up third, with Tavern Light, Financial and Betterman following. There was another close finish in the Nursery Handicap, with the Trcntharritrainod" Palaimi just beating Opulent. When they had settled down, Palanui took charge from Mr Pym, with Opulent and Bramerton next. Palanui led into the straight from Bramerton, who then ran wide and’ carried Matara and Argumentative with him. This let Opulent and Mr Pym through on the inside, and although Opulent challenged strongly he just failed to beat Palanui. Mr Pym was well clear of Gavinmore, with Bramerton next to finish.

Very confidently handled, Ramicourt won the Oeto Handicap narrowly, but the margin could have been greater. Sir Bradbury was prominent early, with Royal Heir, the pair being followed by Park Light and Transmitter. Sir Bradbury was still clear around the homo turn, closely attended by Royal Heir, Transmitter and Park Light, with Ramicourt making up ground on the fence. With less than 50 yards tc run, Ramicourt . was pulled out and he raced past the two leaders to beat Royal Heir by a neck, with Sir Bradbury only a, neck away clear of Transmitter. Then came Rink and Park Light. Results:—
