CRIME IN LONDON
(Rec. 111:30 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 22. An increase in the number of burglaries and hold-ups in London was reported by the Home Secretary (Mr Chuter Ede) in the House of Commons. There was reason to believe that a considerable number of the offences were being committed by Army deserters —-men with no other means of livelihood. The police were organising counter-measures, arranging for policemen to be released from the armed forces and accelerating recruiting.
