COMMUNIST PARTY
At a meeting of the Communist Party Mr V. Wilcox traced tho growth of the working-class movement throughout the world during the war. Ho stated that the election of tho Labour Government in England and the establishment of the progressive Governments of Yugoslavia and Poland, also the growing strength of the Communist Party of China, proved that people’s movements were growing m strength cvrywherc. It was not only necessary to re-elect the Labour Government to power in Now Zealand in 1946, but if they (were to keep in step with the progress in the rest of the world they must revive the fighting spirit of the Now Zealand Labour movement. Iho objective must be increased wages, continuation and extension of price control, and extension of social security benefits. Building must bo planned, with high priority for housing. Farmers and small business men had many problems which all must help to solve. Communists would co-operate with anyone who would help to bring about (ho achievement of these aims. 1 hough the immediate aims were us staled, they would always strive for the. attainment of the ultimate goal of Socialism.
