TRANSPORT LICENSING
When considering applications for renewals of transport licenses in Palmerston North yesterday, the No. 2 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr J. P. Skoglund) said that tho renewals were being granted only for 12 months. Jn the cases of goods licenses they would expire on May 31 and for taxia on August 31. Tho reasoti was that the department had been without the services of investigating accountants. Now that the war was over it was hoped to be able to obtain more information regarding the operations of the licenses and investigations would be made.
Referring to the mimher of vehicle authorities held by a carrying firm in the city, Mr Skoglund said carriers should have a vehicle for each authority issued, especially in these days when so many returned servicemen %rere looking for transport licenses. If he took a line on the authorities issued u>- calculating the number of lorries on the road, it would only load him astray. He wanted to be certain when lliv licensee came under review within the next 12 months that every authority was represented by a vehicle.
