NATIONAL SAVINGS
The rejoicing and festivities of la.-t week in connection with the Japanese surrender, and the closing of the City Pest Office for two days naturally were reflected in the total deposits lo National Savings for the week. Nevertheless. Balmcrstoti North again obtained its quota, first three davs being unexpectedly fruitful. The country offices did not do so well, and the district figures suffered correspondingly. The National Savings Department is concentrating on "Post-war Saving" as the slogan for the future. Last Week 237 (owns attained their quotas of National Savings. All the principal centres were successful, and in each of the 19 postal districts Ihe full district quota, was reached. In all 28 places have now attained their full annual quotas.
