FRENCH CABINET CRISIS
THREAT OF RESIGNATION. LONDON, Aug. 20. General de Gaulle, who leaves by nir at midnight tonight on a visit to President Truman, threatened during the week-end to cancel his trip, reports the Daily Express correspondent in Paris. Heated Cabinet discussions ended in bis agreeing to defer his decision to resign until after his return from "Washington. The arguments of M. Palewski—the unpopular but powerful confidential adviser to General de Gaulle —and General de Gaulle's patience resolved the crisis, which was reached when the Socialist Ministers threatened to resign after the recent differences over General de Gaulle's home and foreign policies. The Foreign Minister (M. Bidault) and M. Palewski are accompanying General de Gaulle to Washington.
