GOVERNMENT IN DIFFICULTIES

LONDON, Aug. 6. High prices and hardships have caused an endless succession of strikes and riotous disorders in Italy. ’J he harvest suffered from drought, the food position is difficult and the people are reacting explosively. The Government’s difficulty is constantly increasing by the arrival every day from Germany of thousands of returned deportees all needing relief and assistance. Transport shortage is another cause of irritation. Five hundred people, some armed, took possession _of the only steamer connecting Sardinia and the mainland. The captain refused to sail because the ship was licensed to carry only 200 passengers. The steamer was tied up for two days until the Govern merit provided two destroyers to carry the surplus passengers.
