MAORIS’ DASH FOR LIBERTY

(Press Assn.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 6. Two Maoris made a da.ring but unsuccessful dash for liberty this morning as soon as they stepped from a police van in front of the main, gates of the Auckland prison, where they were to have been held pending the hearing of charges against them. One was caught by a constable less than 100 yards from the van. The other received two shotgun pellets in the lower part of the back when fired on by a prison 6entrv, but he kept on running and was recaptured by a constable in Carlton Gore Road.
