MONEY FROM WASTE

(Press Assn.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 6. Mr J. W. Collins, chairman of the National Council of Reclamation of Waste, has handed Hon. W. Perry a cheque for £9497 15s 9d which with £IOOO previously paid makes £10,497 15s 9d, the proceeds of the sale of waste for the year ended March 31 for the benefit of the National Patriotic Fund. Mr Collins said the council’s activities were nearing their end and the work will he taken over by the Ministry of Supply. In five years of its operation a total of £54,976 had been paid to the patriotic funds. The collection included 25,700 tons of paper and 5068 tons of rubber including over 500,000 truck and car tyres, 331,5201 b of cleaning rags, 4,780,000 glass containers, and 2170 tons of non-ferrous metals* Today’s cheque -would not be the last and another four-figure cheque might be available when the council closed its activities,.
