BARR—WALTERS

On June 20 a very pretty wedding was solemnised in St. Patrick’s Church, Palmerston North, when Nolecn Bvclena, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs. S. Walters, of Palmerston North, was joined in holy matrimony to Bex William, only son of Mr and Mrs W. G. Barr, Puniho, by Rev. Father Hughes. The traditional chords of Mendelssohn’s Wedding March heralded the arrival of the bridal party. Iho bride, escorted to the altar by her father, looked radiant in a model gown of soft ivory satin, made on fitting lines, with tiny buttons down the back of the bodice and elaborate embroidery in silk, also silver beads from the heart-shaped neckline to the waist, from which the gown flared out to a full-length trained skirt, trimmed to match the corsage. A topknot of white orchids secured her veil of old Chantilly lace, while the flowers in her shower I bouquet included freesias, roses and maidenI hair fern. Misses Billie Richardson (chief I bridesmaid), Margaret Cannon and Nada I Locker attended the bride, charmingly arrayed in pastel shades of blue, pink i and lemon in a heavy embossed. cloque, | similarly designed with fitting bodices and | full gathered skirts. The church was lastefully decorated by friends of tho bride and Miss Spelman presided at the organ. During the signing of the register Miss E. O’Connor provided an appropriate interlude with the singing of “Aye Maria ’ and later at the reception delighted the guests with two popular items. “When Irish Eves Are Smiling” and “I’ll Walk Beside You.” On leaving the church the bride was presented with a lucky horseshoe by her two little nieces, Anne and Elaine Walters. A reception was held later at the Rosco tearooms, when over 90 guests were received by the bride s mother, who looked charming in a gic.y tailored costume, garnished with a spray ! of pink cyclamen, wearing a black _ hat and accesosries. Mrs Walters was assisted by the bridegroom s mother, Airs W. G. j Barr, who wore a navy blue ensemble, hat i and accessories relieved by a corsage of ( red cvclamen. Air r l. Burns ably carried out the duties of toastmaster honouring the usual loasts. At this juncture J visitors from Taranaki, Hawke’s Bay, and Wellington were welcomed, and the many telegrams read. A host of beau- j tiful gifts and cheques were received by j the newly-weds who later left on a tour of the North Island. The bride travelled in a mist blue model frock, grey camelhair coat, black hat and accessories. Prior to the marriage the bride was tendered a gift evening bv Airs W. A. Paris, and she also received a presentation from her! fellow members of the Meteor theatre staff.
