Mr and Mrs AV. Barker, of Christehurch, who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs AV. W. Coutts, of Alfred Street, have returned to their home. A resident of Paln'ierston North for nearly 50 years, Mrs Ada Isabella Chandler passed away at her residence. 127 Grey Street recently. She was horn in Waitara 78 years ago, claiming the distinction of being the first white woman born in that town. Mrs Chandler was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Nelson, her father being harbourmaster, and ferryman at Waitara for a long period. 'She was married to Mr J. J. Chandler* whose death occurred-in 1919. Mrs Chandler, was of a retiring disposition: $ Left to , mourn her passing are two daughters, Mesdamcs S. C. Wood and 1). McGrath (Palmcrston North), and two sons, Mr AV. H. Coif (Sydney) and Dr AV. A. Coff (San Francisco). There arc also sir grandchildren. A Stableford bogey competition played by members of the Manawatu Ladies' Golf Club on Saturday for patriotic funds resulted: Mrs E. 11. \Vimsclt, (14). 27 points; Miss L. Wimsctt (14), 25 points; Mrs R. Collins (19), 25 points; Mrs C. Espinor (22), 25 pointe. Results of Saturday's basketball games:— Second grade: High School 132 won by default from Hospital; Y.W.C.A. Blue. 12 v. High School 133 6: University defaulted to High School 133: High School 134 a bye. Third grade: Technical D 11 v .High School CI 9; Technical C 12 v.
