RUAPEHU INVESTIGATION

(Press Assn.) WELLINGTON. Aug. 6. Mr M. Ougley, Director of Geological Survey, stated that two field geologists, Messrs H. F. Fyfe and A. Beck, are leaving today for Mt. Ruapehu, where they will spend a month in investigation. Instruments to record sound and magnetic and shake effects, specially designed for them, are now being made. Mr Ongley said that the latest photographs showed a new fissure on the east flank of Mt. Ruapehu abovo the head of the Wangaehu River. This indicated that if there was a flow of lava it would flow eastward into an area where it could not do any harm. The lava would get through the crater in a slight flow and relieve the pressure inside the crater. That was the normal expectation. There was nothing sensational or alarming about it. "
