Experiments in bringing cows into milk without having calves were referred to at the dairy factory managers week at Massey College by Professor Rjddet, Director of the Dairy Research Institute. He said it could be done by the use of hormones, even when cows . were sterile, but there was much variation in the results. Some cows responded better than others and the practice was not one to be recommended under existing conditions. Professor Riddet also mentioned a substance which had the unique power of increasing the fat production of a cow when fed in small quantities, but the animals lost weight. The method might be successful under certain conditions.
