EUROPE UNFETTERED

NORWAY RECOVERS FREEDOM

MORE NOTORIOUS NAZIS SEIZED

LONDON, IVfay 9.

- While the last material vestiges of German military power are disappearing within Germany and in isolated parts of Europe, the freedom-loving world continues to celebrate the utter defeat of Nazi tyranny. The last of the enemy's organised land forces have laid down their arms, German shipping is believed to be obeying the Allied instructions, and the document of surrender has been ratified.

The unconditional surrender of all the German forces in Norway has been confirmed, and in Czechoslovakia all organised fighting has ceased with the exception of one small group which the Red Army, Marshal Stalin says, will soon "bring to its senses". Control of the Atlantic ports of St. Nazaire, La Rochelle and Lorient has been.resumed by the French.

Announcing Germany's unconditional surrender, Marshal Stalin declared that Europe was beginning a long period of peace. Moscow celebrated VE-Day with its greatest salute—3o salvoes from 2000 guns. .•-•'•

More notorious Nazisare in Allied hands. Goering has been captured in Bavaria, and Quisling and 400 of his henchmen are under lock and key in Oslo.

In Britain it has been announced that Germany is to be given no Allied food unless it is to save the health of Europe. German prisoners in Britain are to be used on reconstruction work. N y
