POSTHUMOUS AWARD OF V.C. LONDON, May 9.

The war's 1.19 th Victoria Cross has been posthumously awarded to LanceCorporal Shacr Shah, of the 16th Punjab Regiment. Shah, at K.veycbyin, in the Kaladan area of Burma, realising the Japanese were about to destroy his section with overwhelming numbers, stalked the enemy from the rear and broke up the attack, killing a platoon commander and six Japanese. Shah, despite the loss of his right leg, twice more broke renewed attacks.
