Mr Ongley said that -Air Gibbons had been patron of the union for many years and a representative footballer 63 years ago, when ho was captain of the first Hawke's Bav team ever to take the field. It said a great deal for him that he had never lost interest in the game and his name was one to conjure with in the early days of Hawke's Bay football. At the jubilee of the union there he had led the parade of veterans. Sir Gibbons was a regular at tender at matches in I'almerston North and rarely missed a \'-\ me. Rugby was his great recreation hi life. He was an all round sportsman and ntlilete. He had sons who played Rugby in the Manawatu and one of -them. Mr Gordon Gibbous, was a member of the Old Boys' Club. The Dominion ivas the poorer for Mr Gibbons's passing, Rugby football would be poorer and the Manawatu Union would find his place hard to fill. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was carried and it was decided to place on record appreciation of the services Mr Gibbous had given to Rugby football.
