(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mrs Shepherd presided at the May meeting of the Kelvin Grove Women’s Institute. Letters were received from a serviceman, Mr Ray Thorburn (overseas). Mrs Callahan read an account of the annual conference. Two local boys, Messrs F. Maybe and G. McLaren, who have been In prison camps in Germany for several venrs have been reported safe, and all members wished them a speedy return to their loved ones. The institute has decided to bold a social afternoon each fortnight instead of once a month. These are to raise funds for presents to local lads returning from overseas. Mr Sollitf, husband of the institute’s treasurer, who recently returned from overseas, was an honoured guest and lie thanked the members of the institute for parcels they had sent him. Tile hostesses for June are Mcsdamos Grayson and Maylie. and the June competition will be for six pikelets. Each member is to take 6-inch squares of material for a patchwork quilt for the Red Cross, also needle and thread.
