SQUEEZE ON KUSTRIN
PRESSURE OPPOSITE BERLIN ASSAULT ON STETTIN NEAR LONDON, Mar. 7. " Marshal Zhukov's armies standing astride the Oder River opposite Berlin have renewed their pressure on Kustrin, according to German reports, and are apparently trying to squeeze the town out of the defence system before resuming the attack on : - Berlin itself. The Germans claim that the Russian masses"" have been unable to break out of their small Oder bridgeheads in the area-. Following the practice of making no announcement until material progress lias been made, Moscow is silent about this; •" sector. Moscow does refer to the greatly increased threat to! . Stettin, however, by ■'reportin g ih\ capture of a town only 14 miles to the north. The Red Army in this area is closing' •■ up to the Oder Estuary and correspondents believe that the assault on Stettin is not far distant.
