MRS MACARTHUR RETURNS

WORK FOR REHABILITATION. (Rec. 11.30 a.m.) MANILA, Mar. 7. Mrs MacArthur and her son have rejoined General MacArthur, arriving today on the first refrigerator ship to enter Manila Bay since its liberation. A headquarters' spokesman said that Mrs MacArthur had returned to aid the internees and assist with the rehabilitation of Manila and its' inhabitants.

"Throughout all the Luzon sectors our troops are regrouping for the campaign's final phases," says General MacArthur'a communique. "Combat activity was limited. Patrols captured 20 enemy boats south-west of Termite. Air patrols sweeping Cagayan Valley wrecked five enemy planes at Echague. Light naval units off the Zambales coast sank one enemy coastal craft 'laden with escaping troops." Though taking off and landing aboard carriers in the black void of the Pacific night, the almost incredible carrier night fighters played a great part in the recent Philippines victories, says the New York Herald-Tribune. The carrier night fighters' total score at present is 55 enemy planes, but this is secondary to the punishment of Japanese aerodromes and shipping and night searches for Japanese submarines. The enemy has not scored a single night blow against carriers with night fighter protection.
