SWIMMING SPORTS
Three school records (senior and junior long plunge and the 53 1-3 yards intermediate backstroke) were broken at the annual swimming sports of tho Palmerston North Girls’ High School on Thursday afternoon, when the standard of swimming and diving was high. The junior long plunge record of 36ft Sin, established in i 943, was eclipsed by Ift llin. by D. Lovell, and in the senior long plunge. G. Taylor exceeded the previous record by 45ft 2in established in 1943. by 9iu. The 1943 record of 26 3-ssec. for the 33 1-3 yards intermediate backstroke championship was lowered by M. Tremaine by 6 2-ssoo. The champions were: Senior, P Marken : intermediate, M. Tremaine: junior. B. Tutty. 'The cups were presented by Mr G. Tremaine, deputy-chairman of the Board of Governors. Members of the staff were the officials, gnd Mr W. C\ Nichols judged the diving. . ' The results are:—Senior championship, 33 1-3 yards freestyle, P. Macken 1, M. Downie 2. N.
