GREAT SWIMMER'S DEATH

(Rec. 11.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 5. Dr Arthur Thomas Kennedy, former world swimming champion and record holder, has died here at the age of 77. He .was regarded as the swimming phenomenon of his day. Before he went to America in 1891 to complete his dentistry studies he won swimming championships in Australia. In America for three successive years Dr Kennedy won the Atlantic championship, the national championship twice, and the 100 yarijs championship of the world. Records which he established for 100 yards and one mile in Am'erica stood for many years. Dr Kennedy gave up competitive swimming when he returned to Australia to practise his profession in 1595.
