THREE SLIPS IN GORGE
SERIOUS BLOCKAGE
Three slips of fairly large dimensions came down in the Manawatu Gorge late last evening following the heavy rain, and today traffic to Hawke's Bay and the Wairarapa had to use the Pahiatua Track or the Saddle Road from Asbhurst.
The first slip is about two miles from the Palmerston North entrance and by noon it had been cleared enough to allow one-way traffic. The second slip, a short distance from the first, is mostly of loose rubble and wood. This s'ip has occurred at a point known as the "slurrv". The third slip came down about' a' mile and a half from the Woodville end. It was hoped to have one-way traffic through late this evening, but it will be next week before the' roadway is completely cleared. ' The Manawatw Automobile Association reported today that Siberia Road, between Aokautere and the Gorge, is Mocked at the new deviation by a slow-moving slip. The road is not likely to be open for traffic until after the week-end.
