NEW OFFENSIVE LAUNCHED
RUSSIANS BALTIC DRIVE. , LONDON, Dec. 22
The Berlin radio announces that a great new Russian offensive has opened in the Baltic area. It is described as being on a tremendous scale on a front of 22 miles. Twenty-seven divisions were thrown in a drumfire artillerv barrage lasting an hour and a half by 10Q0 heavy guns. The radio admitted penetrations. at several points. The Washington correspondent of the Associated Press learns that Russia has assured the Allies that a powerful- lied Army offensive is coming up with a new alignment of forces spearheaded towards the heart of Germany, says a New York message. The Red Army High Command is reported to have informed the British and Americans of the date of the new offensive and there is strong evidence that the latter are counting on it.
