RED CROSS SOCIETY

The Palmerston North Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society held its final executive meeting 'for ftho year on Wednesday evening, Mr A. R. McKegg being in the chair. The treasurer reported that a total amount of £268 7s 5d had resulted from the recent street day collection and general satisfaction was expressed with the result obtained. It was reported that the total expenses of providing toffee and ice cream for the Polish children on their way through to Pahiatua amounted to £23 6s Bd. towards which donations were received from Mrs W. A. Jacques £2, Rotary Club £5, and the P.D.C. Social Committee £2 2s, ■leaving a balance of £l4 4s 8d to bo paid by the Red Cross Society. This amount was considered well spent in view of the obvious delight shown by the children at the welcome given them.

Reports were read from the nursing division, transport section, sewing division, and younger set, and the chairman commented on the splendid work done by all sections during the year. Mention was made of the important task awaiting the sewing division next year when their efforts will be concentrated on the collection and despatch of large quantities of clothing to the destitute people of Greece in accordance with the campaign recently announced by the Covernment. The society has had its own Christmas cards printed this year and these are proving a. very popular innovation with members.
