ANZAC DAY

OBSERVANCE AS HOLIDAY. WELLINGTON April 20. The question of the observance of Anzac Day by shopkeepers, factory occupiers, and people in general has been raised, and the matter was referred to bv Mr W. J. Mountioy, secretary of the Wellington Employers' Association, who advises as follows: Factories.—Under Section 13 of the Factories Amendment Act, Anzac Dayis a holiday for factory workers, and must be observed on Tuesday next.

Retail shops and commercial businesses.—Anzac Day is not a holiday within the meaning of thc_ Shops and Offices Act, but shops and offices must close on Tuesday next, as under the Anzac Day Act, 1920, as amended in 1921, it is provided that Anzac Day slit: 1 be observed throughout New Zealand in all respects as if Anzac Day were a Sunday.

Restaurants'. —Tea rooms and restaurants which are permitted to keep open for business'on Sunday can likewise conduct similar business on Tuesday next.
