EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” JANUARY 3, 1914. The first Now Year rinks’ tournament of the Manawatu Bowling Centre was commenced on New Year’s Day. There wore 15 fours from Woodville, Shannon, and the Palmerston North Clubs. The Marton Cup, of £SOO, one and a quarter miles, had boon won by Mi Highden’s” Expect, 8.8 (A. Olhver) from Lord Renown, with Seatonville third. In the King’s New Year honours list Mr W. F. Massey had been made a Privy Councillor, Sir Charles Bowen had received the Order of K.C.M.G., and Professor J. Shand the C.M.G. Professor Ernest Rutherford (later I-ord Rutherford) was knighted in the English list.
